Default Cobra Valley Plastic Windshield Finally Installed

I've had this thing in my rafters for 6 months finally got up the nads to do with he swap...
Steps:
I elected to leave in the uprights which makes the whole thing easier.
Removed and carefully marked wings, side hooks, visors and rear view mirror. -actually looks cleaner without all of it...

1764 has the center rod, removed the two upward facing allens, (bracket to wind shield).
Remove two side screws and the whole thing comes up and forward away from the car, The little Allen screws are 4mm metric, removing is much easier if you shorten an Allen wrench by cutting the short end almost to the curve...these things are a ***** to restart...

To remove the glass two lower screws on either (bottom) side of the frame and the center support rod must be removed, then the frame bottom and sides top unit can be CAREFULLY Be pulled away.

If I had it to do again I would order a new rubber gasket...

I did not elect to glue the new one in, I cleaned out the frame and with the aid of a friend and dish soap worked the new one in. The center support rod made securing it together much easier...it is actually a frame compression device which hooks over the upper and lower frames together once assembled. The nuts are 5.5 mm (tiny)...

The glass install is a bit of an ordeal but the rest was pretty straightforward.

Cool,
Can you tell us what is the vision like? (any distortion/halos/stars/colouring when looking through the curve into sun or headlights etc?)
Any flexing at speed?
Did you get to test the new screen for stability prior to fitting centre support?
Cheers
Steve

With no glue or rubber gasket, how does the screen fit in the frame? Any issues?

Question: Was this plastic wind screen polycarbonate? Acrylic? and now that its been in a while are you seeing any degradation in clarity? I would worry that these plastics will scratch easily due to their softness and can cloud over in time due to all the sand and dust that hits it.

I've had a Cobra Valley "polyglass" (polycarbonate) windshield on my car for about 2 years. I've put on at least 10K miles, and probably more. There is a minor bit of mini-pitting and one maybe 1/16" nick where a sizeable hunk of something hit. No doubt, a glass windshield would not have survived nearly as well. I live in Southern AZ and we have more dust and grit in the air than less arid areas. I also drove on a 5400 mile jaunt last summer with probably close to 1000 miles through the desert. The pitting has not caused any issues but is visible with oncoming headlights. Nothing bad, just noticeable. I don't have wipers but I do use anything handy to clean the windshield. Nothing special. I don't have any swirl marks as I would have had with softer plastics. I'm satisfied and can't imagine ever having to install another windshield My 2¢.

I've been running this same windshield for several years, love it, no issues what so ever.
By the way, RT strongly suggest gluing the windshield to the frame.
