The Good the Bad and the Ugly, but not necessarily in this order.

I'd like to share with everyone my experience with the good the bad and the ugly. I've never dealt with either of these companies in the past since this is all new to me.

I'm not here to bash anyone or any company, just wanted to share with everyone my past experience.

I recently purchased a Quicktime bell housing (6060) for my SF cobra build. I went with this manufacture because of everyone's recommendations and build quality of product (supposedly).

To make a long story short, when inserting the reducer bushing into the BH opening it just dropped in, ie quite sloppy. After posting about this in a recent post I realised this wasn't right.

I called Summit and they told me to call tech support at Holley. As I found out the only way to reach anyone at Holley was to call as soon as they open other wise forget it, but that's just my experience.

This past Monday I sent a video of me dropping in the bushing ring to Gary at Holley for proof of the problem.

Long story short again, tech support emailed his boss to see if they could send out a replacement ring. I asked for the BH opening ID size and tolerances, he didnt know the diameter but said the tolerance should be (+/- 0.015") I laughed, well in that case no sense in indicating the crank and BH bore for runout (TIR) jokingly of course.

This morning after feeling a little angry from the night before and because Holley hasn't responded to my emails I decided to call Summit and see what they could or more importantly would do. I was prepared for them to pass the buck. I explained the situation to a very supportive woman at Summit and she said since it will take Holley a week or so to send out a new ring why don't I just send out a new BH. I was shocked to say the least, kudos to Summit Racing and their customer support!!!!

Any how, still no Email response from Holley. I just wish I hadn't bought one of their carburetors.

Nuff said, just wanted to post my experience with a good company (Summet) and bad company (Holley) and the ugly, Quicktime Bellhousings.

I had no idea QT bell housings were as expensive as they are. I think I paid $250 for my Lakewood, which you can't buy anymore because the company was bought by... yep... Holley. Used FE bellhousings from Lakewood are over $500 now on Ebay. But I suppose a bellhousing never really gets old. They were always a bear to get the runout aligned right though. That's why guys preferred QTs.

I love Summit. They have always treated me right.

I had several calls with MSD tech support (a Holley brand). They left out some key information that extended my diagnosis time. If they had noted the issue for a new build, it would have pointed right to the issue.

Google helped me find the issue and then I was able to independently confirm.

Yes, but that was back when Adam was a lad, wasn't it ....and when beige was in?

My BH dilemma continues….

Got the replacement QuickTime from Summit, and guess what…the silver bushing ring is also loose, if I put it on. I can slop it around 7 thou+ according to my indicator.

With the first BH my TIR was 14 thou so I ordered 7 thou offset dowels, but this hosing is off 30 thou so I can’t bring it in to spec., lol, larger offset dowels needed.

Holley set me another ring to try, but he sent the yellow smaller one, even after week discussed the sizing and color needed.

I’m just debating if I should just send this back and spend the extra money on the one Mc Leod makes.

Just getting frustrated, something so simple to set up and install is taking me weeks.
