Default Front emblem placement - SCOF /ERA no match

Hey Guys,

I am trying to find the proper location of the front "cobra" emblem. The SCOF sight indicates 9.5" up from radiator open and ERA drawing indicates 10.75 inches from hood opening. ERA has the emblem in line with headlights or there abouts, is there any set rule? The ERA sits more to the front of the hood. Where did the value on SCOF come from?

Thanks

Walk on the wild side and go emblem-less. No one will ever guess what kind of car it is.

You could probably call Olthoff and get the specs for placement on an SPF. They seem to be super helpful and are willing to answer most questions.

I used the ERA specs on mine.

Contemporary Classic is 8 7/8" from the opening to the bottom of the emblem.

CSX3318 looks lower

CSX3020:

CSX3018 from the day:

CSX3112:

CSX2375

COX6111

CSX2345 COMMANDO

Sharp eye for details! I just looked through a few books, SAI looks to have placed them on the lower half of the front end. COB, COX, and Autokraft (with exceptions) look to be centered. Oddly enough there are a few restored 3000 cars that look to have a centered emblem. As with all these cars there are always exceptions.........

An old 'home movie' 8mm converted to digital show's CSX2001 with BOTH "AC" and the early "Cobra" emblems, one above the other! The video's are posted on SAACforum.com Some other interesting details are also shown on that car. Hood scoop, roll bar, side exhaust exit under car. Good stuff.

CSX3275 pictured above? Can't be, slab side street car wouldn't be in the 3000 range.

Taken from Snake Bite Webstore:

Side Fender Badges:
Originally these badges were fitted 1 5/8” above the front guard side louvers. They were fitted 2 1/8” forward from the top edge of the 4th lourve(counting from front of vehicle). Both measurements were taken from centre of the badge.

Trunk Lid Badge
Originally these badges were positioned 18.5” back from the front edge of boot lid and centered on the boot. Measurements taken to centre of badge.

Hood Badge
Originally these badges were positioned 11.5” further forward of the front edge of the bonnet and centered on the body. Measurements taken to centre of badge.

Thanks everyone,

I looked at all the ones on club cobra and cobra country, some hood emblems are high some are low, all look good!!! I will probably opt for the high one or 9.5" from the opening. The reason being if I get 3m paint protection I would not want the paint protection any higher on the car. Oltoff was super nice and said 9.5" from the opening which matched the SCOF instructions, good tip, I guess I could have called Dynamic.

The next big question if you can guess, what about the trunk?

Frankly I was stunned to see such an arrangement. Obviously Shelby began to take more and more credit for the marque as time went on and the AC emblem was eventually dropped, at least on this side of the pond. The controversy continues to this day, is it an AC a Shelby or both? Oh, and lets not leave out the 'Powered by Ford' emblems on the side of the early cars!

Default SPF Cobra Badging Placement

I have a PDF document, drawn by Stephen Bramlitt (Owner of Reno Engine & Drivetrain - SPF engine build specialists) showing the correct badge placements. Anyone interested, send me a PM w/ email address and I'll send the doc. Basically, the directions are 9 and a 1/2 inches from edge of oval opening to bottom of badge in front, and 4 and a 1/2 inches from top of license plate light to bottom of badge. He said to use only Permatex Clear and to tape them lightly with masking tape so they don't slide down while the Permatex sets.

Just a little dyslexic or new eyeglasses coming? Jeff typed CSX 2375, not 3275.

As far as the badge placement, put it where you think it looks best, within the range of dimensions mentioned, IMHO.

I think it's too bad the "AC" badge didn't continue on the 427. I think it's the better looking of the two.

Under the top of the nose - on an SPF there is a "boss" for the badge. -- this will help you locate it.
