Default Heater

Little off cobra topic,
I am working on a pet project of the same era, 1964 ford car heater box.
What Im looking for is a sealant that would be close to what they used to assemble these things.
The original sealant is a gray color and has stayed some what soft.
It was easy to clean up etc, so I am looking for something similar to put things back together.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Maybe something like a body seam sealer?

I remember that stuff well. It used to come in a tube and was a Rotunda product. We all had it in our tool boxes. One of the mechanics I worked with smoked a corn cob pipe. He'd smoke them until the bottom burned out and....he used that stuff to plug the burned out part of the pipe and continue smoking it. Wouldn't, spend the $.99 for a new one. Everyone smoked in those days. I'd suggest a good brand of silicon caulk and they do come in gray.

I think 3M strip caulk is what you should look for.
