Default Looking for a Sorted Cobra to Buy

My real estate broker saw my FFR and has been seriously bitten by the Cobra bug. He is a non-gearhead, so the car he buys really needs to be completely built and sorted. If you have or know of an entry level Cobra for sale locally in the DFW area please let me know. It would probably need to mild mannered and certainly doesn't need to be a fire breathing monster of a car.

He was about to buy some re-bodied "european sports car" Cobra off of Craigslist, but I managed to steer him away from that just in time. I'd really like to find him a Hurricane, FFR or Lonestar. Anybody know of something to consider around here?

Joe

A non-gearhead buying a Cobra replicar is a bad accident waiting to happen. Do him a favor and talk him into something with electronic nannies.

Brian has a blue Lonestar at his shop that he has had for sale for a while. Not sure what motor is in it, but it sure is pretty...

Joe,

Check out the Cobra for sale in my sig line.........Just rolled over 20,000 miles this past week, went through the car this summer before the trip up to SAAC at Watkins Glen, and updated everything that even remotely hinted of things down the road. All the car needs is a new driver/owner. While not inexpensive, it is the best bang for his buck, and I am not saying that because it is mine, but saying that because I know the market and priced it accordingly........

Joe,
Bill Swendson in Houston knows of several down there. DJ Roberts Lone Star in Round Rock might be available. Let me know if you need his info.

Sorry Bill price is a major consideration.. Think ENTRY LEVEL.. A $25K-$28K donor build FFR is what he's probably most in the market for.

Have him look around...I bought this for $18,200 and drove it home from Dallas:

Other than a new air cleaner and new poly bushings in the suspension, I have had very little to do on it....it was drivable as purchased. It has a box-stock drivetrain from a 1989 Mustang GT, converted to carb, except for the live axle, which is a 3.70 9" Tractionloc. It is reliable, starts every time, idles at 750 RPM, no need to even touch the footfeed to idle up a very steeply inclined driveway to the garage.

It can be scary fast....I had a few close calls before I learned how little it takes with the right foot to break the tires loose. He really should find someone with one and take a test drive if possible, or at least a spirited ride with the owner. These things swap ends so fast you are left wondering what happened, not for the faint of heart. Mine has a very compliant suspension, but being so light it does ride a bit roughly and you definitely feel the bumps.

Hope he finds one to buy, they are out there for VERY decent prices b/c of the economic downturn we've experienced in America. If he pays in that price range for a FFR donor build, he'd be cheating himself...it's a buyer's market.

Are you sure he can't stretch his budget enough to buy Bill's ERA? The ERA is sort of the gold standard when it comes to fiberglass replicas, IMHO, and the 289 is THE car to have.....the TRUE original, IMHO.

Cheers, and good luck in the search!!!

Dugly
