Purchase Consultant
I've forever admired Cobras and I'm finally in a position to purchase one. However, I lack the knowledge that is floating around these parts. Therefore, I was curious if anyone knew of someone I could enlist/hire as a consultant to help me purchase a properly sorted example. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Go to local "cars and coffee" events, there are almost always Cobras present. Talk to owners about their cars and experiences. Some may have helpful mechanics and/or people that can do a PPI.

Purchasing things you don't understand, can't evaluate and possibly can not maintain is not a generally accepted formula for success. If your knowledge and experience is lacking you might want to hang around a site like this for a while and bolster it a bit before pulling the trigger.
As your knowledge increases your preferences will evolve, potentially leaving you in a position where an early selection criteria mix would not be sufficiently similar to your later informed and more knowledgeable selection criteria. The upshot is you will have successfully achieved what is commonly known as buyers remorse if you do as it appears you are planning to do.

Ed's 100% right. Put everything on hold for a few months while you take the time to learn all you can, attend some local Cobra club events, and figure out exactly what you want. Otherwise, you're almost guaranteed to make a mistake.

Post where you live. Locals can chime in on when and where they meet.

I wrote a long post that has been pending for a couple days. First, I just wanted to thank everyone for readily offering up their assistance. Speaks volumes about the community here.
Ed - I hear your point and it's been a consideration. I didn't just jump into these, I've been researching extensively, but I feel there's an acquired knowledge that comes with owning the actual car. That's what I'm missing and something I'd benefit from having on my side.
I'm seriously considering a BDR. I've sat in one before and it fits my 6 2 225 frame. They seem reliable, exciting, and I appreciate the modern interpretation. What I don't know are all the problems to look for when purchasing. I'm vaguely familiar with important options like limited slip, updated windshield surround, etc. but I'm probably missing a lot too...

Biglife,
Next week starting on Wednesday, April 4 through April 8th, we are holding the TCC Spring Meet. There will be literally one, if not a dozens, of each make of Cobra replica currently in the market today. It is in San Marcos about 45 mile south of Austin. You will get an ear-full from everyone you ask!
Call me at 512-557-3694 or go to Texas Cobra Club Spring Meet.
