Default 17" Wheels in need of tires- What is everyone running?

Seeing if the flat spots work out of these tires on a 40 mile run to the shop for a PPI. Car is 20 years old and hopefully changed them out once in 20 years. 17" chrome knock offs. Looking for tires and not looking very good at options. I really don't want 100 sticky tires lobbing rocks all over the car. 200 to 220 I think would be perfect. Options are slim. Nitto NT 05's look like a good plan but not in stock anywhere. Best I found was Jegs which has fronts and the rear available in 30 days. Going to look the Superformance Cobra over a lot better going 40 miles one way today vs the 5 miles on my first test ride on square tires. Owner can no longer drive the car so it is up to me to try and round them back out.

I just went through this. My NTO5’s were 10 years old and hard as rocks.
The NTO5’s are on back order everywhere. I finally went with the Nitto NT555 G2’s to replace my NTO5’s. More tread, softer ride. 320 treadwear.

I run the the MT Street Comp.

They wear well and have great traction.

red,

If you have a chance, check the date codes on the tire sidewalls - a simple thing if you know about them; look for "how to find tire date codes" on the internet if you don't.

If the tires are 10+ years old I'd like to be the beneficiary on your life insurance policy ;-)

They are 20 year old Michelin Pilot Super sports. Look like new. Saw the rear had a small nail in it which we left in to get back home. They did round out finally after 50 miles or so. Car rode much better. Compression on the engine checked out good. They recommend I replace the FI system with Holly 750. They will not work on the older EFI currently on the car. I couple of small oil and water leaks from old gaskets but car checked out good. Need to go through the car and check all the fasteners etc and a good cleaning.

I have Nitto NT 555 G2. I like them, but when they sit for a long while, they get a flat spot. It takes a while for the tire to get warm and go round again, which stinks.

Unfortunately, 17's are yesterday's tire size and your options are getting limited real fast.

Need a 335/35/17 rear and MT doesn't make it. Michelin polit SS is the only tires I can find and that is what is on the car 20 years old with 2600 miles.

The Toyo R888R is also a great tire - tons of grip.

How are they about throwing rocks? Was staying away from 100 and under tires. 335/35/17 have very limited tires available.

Nitto 555 RII drag radials hook real hard and IMO are a safer tire for those occasional bursts of stupidity to keep you somewhat pointed forward and no rocks. Perfect for Az. 315/35/17 are the widest available tho'

315/35/17 M/T ET Street drag radials. I dented my oil pan after a +/- 12" wheelie after I got off the gas.
