Default Toploader ID

Need help. The tag with RUG-** or HEH-** is missing.

Here's the main case ID:

Is this a CR or a WR box?

Is there a cross reference table somewhere that relates RUG/HEH ID with case ID? Can't find it on DK's site.

Cheers,
Glen

That's just a serial number. From all the research I have been doing on my top loader, you might be out of luck. I hope I am wrong.

There are some main case part numbers cross referenced here but it's far from complete.

Toploader id

However, based on the 7006 - W markings it looks like it could line up with a CR box. A lot of things get messed with over 50 years however so witiout opening it up or counting revolutions of input to output in 1rst gear you can't be sure.

Thanks.
Looks like the C8AR-7006 main case was used for both CR and WR.
Read somewhere that the "W1" on the casting indicates a CR and "W2" indicates WR. Is this familiar to anyone?
Cheers,
Glen

Here is a tip from old school docs I have and quoting:

"Pull the front bearing retaining collar off of the front of your Top Loader. If you see a machine mark on the input shaft, it should be a wide ratio transmission."

I have seen them and it looks like they just turned a groove in them to ID the trans, but that was a long time ago.

You may want to just call Dave Kee. He will help you.

Good luck!

Bernica and Dwight, it's a box I'm thinking of buying, so I'm trying to ID it by remote control. Seems if the tag with the RUG or HEH number is gone, the only way to check if CR or WR is to count the turns of both shafts in first gear. That's what I'm asking the guy to do now.
Cheers,
Glen

xb-60: I may be wrong, but I think they all used the same cases of "boxes".

Yes, I agree. It would seem that the C4 in C4AR indicates a 1964 build, C6 is 1966 C8 1968 and D2 is a '72. It doesn't indicate what's inside the gearbox.
Without the RUG/HEH tag, the box becomes somewhat of an orphan.

Cheers,
Glen

Update....
Comparing turns of input with output turns in first gear, it's a WR, which is what I want.
So... WR, correct tailhousing, shifter included, known history. I bought it.
Cheers,
Glen
