Hi Jim,

My firs car was a 1961 Renault Dauphine, loved that little car. Always wanted the Gordini version.

Cheers

Mike;

Mine was a 1962, It was a gas, and very fast, it was deceptiely fast. Then my dad made a connection (he was a SCCA Racer and Engine builder and part owner of PhotoMat) and he was able to order a set of heads and conversion kit to a Twin Cam Engine from Renault Factory.

As usual the French screwed up and we were sent a Formula IV Engine complete. With all the telephone calls and telexes, they finally just said to keep the complete engine!!! Oh Happy Day!

It took about a month to do the re- engineering of the engine compartment. A complete sub frame had to be constructed because of the Torque. The Gordini 4 speed was pretty tricked out and strong to begin with, so the 190 HP wasn't a problem but after a weekend of Auto-Cross and Gymkanas, I had to replace the rubber and the clutch at the same time. I also had fully decambered rear end and an anti sway bar the size of my wrist! It would stay in the grove, thats for sure.

I sold it to a guy when I got my 260 Cobra, but it was really fast and fun to drive, I really liked to catch a Corvette guy un aware and when the turbo wound up and poof, I was but a memory.

I went into the servace and was gone from home for s years, I lost track of where the car went after then, but someone had a jewel!

It was a lot of fun! I would often stuff a small friend into the front trunk for balast! Especially when I was in High School!!! LOL
