My brand new $15,000 motor and $2,000 trans were at a friend's place for a quick coat of paint. The day after I left the motor there, a bushfire destroyed everything inside - and outside the shed...

That's just heart breaking to see. Was the botom end or any internals salvagable?

The top half was toasted, but a metallurgist said the rods had been nicely heat-treated. Nice in theory, but when we fitted them to the replacement motor, a rod snapped within 500 miles. That destroyed a perfect factory 4 bolt block!!!
